Austin post-punk quartet French Film released Yours + Five through Solid Brass Records on August 21. The title is literal: the 10-track collection combines the five songs from 2025’s Yours EP with the band’s first two singles and three newly released songs.

The Austin Chronicle brought the album back into the local conversation with a September 10 review. That makes this a useful moment to look beyond the genre shorthand and map how a two-year run of sessions at Austin’s Test Tube Audio became one coherent album-length collection.

French Film’s official Bandcamp describes Yours + Five as a collection of the group’s first two 2024 singles, the five-song Yours EP released in 2025 and three new songs. The result is a 10-track album-length sequence rather than a wholly new set recorded in one block.

The distinction matters for listeners and collectors. “Montana, Maybe.” and “Lily” preserve the band’s earliest released phase; the first five tracks reproduce the Yours EP; and “Rabbit Foot,” “Blair” and “10,000,000,000 Reasons” are the three additions that complete the new collection.

Kevin Butler engineered, mixed and mastered the material at Test Tube Audio in Austin. The official credits place tracks six and 10 in July 2024, tracks one through five in January 2025, and tracks seven through nine in January 2026.

That chronology explains the release’s structure without turning it into a random anthology. One studio and one engineering hand carry the band from its first singles through the EP and into the three newest songs, while the running order rearranges those sessions into a deliberate album sequence.

The record credits Ash Keenum on guitar, bass and vocals; Colby Falkner James on bass, guitar and vocals; Drake Alexander on guitar; and Joshua Harpur on drums. Keenum and James trading instruments as well as vocal roles helps explain why the collection does not reduce to a single fixed guitar-frontperson arrangement.

French Film tags the release with post-punk, shoegaze, noise rock and post-hardcore, while Solid Brass points listeners toward Sonic Youth, Unwound and Blonde Redhead. Those are the artist and label’s own signposts—not a claim that every track sounds the same.

Listeners who already know the Yours EP can jump directly to tracks seven through nine. Those are the three songs recorded in January 2026 and added for this release: “Rabbit Foot,” “Blair” and “10,000,000,000 Reasons.”

New listeners should begin at track one and hear how the EP material flows into the early single “Montana, Maybe.” before the 2026 block arrives. “Lily,” the other 2024 single, closes the record and gives the assembled timeline a circular finish.

Local record review

The Austin Chronicle published a new review of Yours + Five on September 10, calling French Film shoegaze torchbearers and focusing on the collection’s amorphous wall of sound. The review is criticism rather than primary release documentation, so Trackside uses the band and label pages for dates, credits, formats and availability.

Together, the sources give the clearest listening map: Bandcamp for the exact sequence and credits, Solid Brass for the physical edition, and the Chronicle for the current Austin critical response.
